🐐 Things They Don’t Tell You About Motherhood (Like the Goat That Hates Me)

No one warned me that motherhood would involve negotiating peace treaties between dogs, ducks, and a goat with a superiority complex.

Somewhere between helping with virtual school assignments and trying to keep everyone fed, I apparently became the referee of a small farmyard kingdom — one ruled by chaos, feathers, fur, and one very opinionated man.

Let’s start with the goat.
Yes, he.
He’s ornery, dramatic, and struts around like he’s the CEO of bad behavior.
He gives me the side-eye like I’ve personally offended his delicate sensibilities.
He and the biggest rooster have an ongoing feud, and I swear, if you listen closely, you can hear the opening notes of a western showdown every time they lock eyes.

Then there are the dogs — four of them.
Jackie, the beagle, is a professional bird chaser.
Sadie thinks she’s a lap dog, despite being 80 pounds of golden doodle energy.
Molly and Reese (my tiny monarch) alternate between snuggling under blankets and plotting small acts of rebellion.
There is no peace, only fur.

Add in the cats, chickens, ducks, geese, and that stubborn goat, and you’ve got a full-time sitcom —
starring me, the mom who just wanted to get through a math lesson without a barnyard brawl.

But here’s the thing:
As ridiculous as it all is — the noise, the feathers, the fur, the endless chaos — it’s mine.
It’s our sacred ordinary.

These animals remind me every day that life is messy and loud and unpredictable… and somehow, that’s where the joy hides.
In the laughter that comes after the chaos.
In the moments when I’m shaking my head but smiling anyway.
In the gentle reminder that sometimes, love looks a lot like fur on your favorite blanket and hoofprints on your porch.
